The Art of Isabel Samaras: On Tender Hooks
Absorbing fantasy worlds, fairytale, eroticism, and adding her own dash of art-historical figuration and contemporary pop culture, Isabel Samaras broaches new terrain with On Tender Hooks: The Art of Isabel Samaras (Chronicle Books). On Tender Hooks is the 1st monograph examining Samaras' stellar drawings, paintings and vintage lunchboxes - each piece showcasing her work with layers of reference that range from Renaissance landscape, the Old Masters, Neoclassical portrait painting to eroticism and fantasy, in the beautiful tome we see works Samaras combines with pop-cultural images as ground from which to make her quirky, sexy, pop-surrealist art carefully executed leaps into fantasy. Samaras' series includes depictions of homoerotic superheroes, inter-species romance, and some of our favorite television characters depicting mythological & legendary art creations. Samaras paints her characters with a masterful, glow reminiscent of the Old Masters and renders the entire pieces from the background depictions with a care that evokes some of the world's finest illustration. As such, this volume constitutes an enticing dossier on Samaras' encyclopedic exploration of various subjects and reproduces it entirety with the utmost perfection. This book is for lovers of art, fairytale and lowbrow luxe! Thursday, June 25, 2009
Gareth Pugh ... Man of the Hour
The collection of outstandingly constructed black and pewter looks intricately pieced together in quilted pieces, textured materials and voluminous shapes with his already established influential shape—all those big, swathed, cowl-like necklines he's known for made the collection of only 24 looks a standout!
The designer's new silhouette—falling away in a pleated-back A-line from a small shoulder—was the direct inverse of the triangular shape that made his name. It gave a swirling, capelike volume to coats and jackets. The new trouser shape—high-waisted, with a full pant that covered Pugh's platformed footwear—also amplified the volume moving around the body.(The shoes themselves looked like snub-snouted devil dogs; they almost seemed to be grinning evilly.).....Bravo GP

Tomes to Treasure............
As the name implies, this book is a heartfelt love letter to a jewelry house without equal. Epitomizing luxury for over a century, Cartier’s devotees have included the global elite, as well as sirens of stage and screen. Originally a jeweler of kings, Cartier is often dubbed “the king of jewelers.” Renowned for its craftsmanship and exquisite materials, the marque is a byword for opulent innovation.
Art directed and edited by Bruce Weber, this dazzling homage combines photographs created by Weber just for the book, original texts by Weber and Ingrid Sischy, along with a fascinating cornucopia of archival images and passages. The distinctively gold-bordered, red cover is designed to look like a Cartier jewelry box—right down to the authentic Cartier ribbon sewn into each binding.

High & Haute!
Powerful, sexy, and slightly hard-core, high & thigh high boots make a fierce and unexpected statement for fall (yes kids I always think a season ahead). This bondagesque trend debuted—ever so briefly though unforgettably—on the Givenchy runway and has since made an appearance in almost every fall 2009 show. I've fallen in love with rock-star-worthy boots paired with a crisp white shirtdress and a trim black blazer, creating the ideal balance of polished cool and edgy sex appeal. Worn with skinny jeans and a shrunken jacket, the look becomes more daytime than dominatrix—giving you even more bang for your buck. Here's a few of my faves so far..
